More people are going back to theaters not to watch movies, but to play games

Yes, You read right…. It is a new trend that is gaining traction in South Korea. Theater chains know they've suffered a huge setback from the pandemic, but some are coming up with clever ways to offset some of those losses.  BBC reports that CGV, the biggest film industry company in South Korea, has started allowing gamers to rent the screen for two-hour segments, starting for just $90 before 5 PM, and then going as high as $135 later in the evening. It’s a lot of money, especially when gamers have to bring their own consoles, controllers, and games. But with everything bundled into one package, who wouldn’t want to play on a screen 20 feet long with epic sound? Some of the games said the to play games at the theater is pretty cool and sound quality is top-notch and the graphics are almost life-like. This article mentions that Malco Theaters, an American movie theater chain with 36 cinemas based in the southern US, allowed people to rent screens for gaming or private viewing. It tu...

Wifi Industry Disruption Through Starlink by Elon Musk

Elon Musk and his company SpaceX, also known as “The Modern-Day Iron Man,” have been working on an interconnected satellite network in low-Earth orbit so people can have an internet connection.   On Monday, the company announced that its beta test will be available to the people who have expressed interest in signing up for the service. The product they call Starlink is priced at $99 per month and users will incur a $499 cost upfront for the Starlink Kit. Starlink Kit includes a $499 user terminal, mounting tripod, and WI-FI router. According to an email sent to interested parties, the company said people should not expect the test to blow their minds the way one expects from a standard Elon production.   Quick reminder the Starlink is a satellite constellation that SpaceX has been trying to build in earth orbit, they have so far launched 900 satellites but that can only cover America and Canada. They have to send a few 1000 more satellites and try to cover the whole pl...

Facebook Gaming not for Apple

On Monday,  #Facebook  launches cloud  #gaming  services in the app and website but FB wants you to play on the app rather than go to the website for 10to 20 times. But the problem is that this  #cloudgaming  service is not for the  #appleiphone  and safari browser. The reason is FB said it couldn't offer the service for the iPhone because of  #Apple 's "arbitrary" policies on applications that act like app stores. These games you find on FB Gaming you can also download on mobile but here you can connect with your friends. They include titles like “Asphalt 9: Legends,” which is a 3D racer, and “PGA TOUR Golf Shootout,” a 3D golfing game. Games quality is not like  #GoogleStadia ,  #AmazonLuna , or  #Microsoft ’sxCloud. They are just in-app offerings. What is the FB benefit? The main benefit is that users will spend more time on FB and see ads and they can also gain through some in-app game purchases in which FB gets 30% ...

Oracle and Google copyright Battle Fight

This is a fight between  #Google  and  #Oracle , over some  #API  code. They are fighting over this for a very long time since 2010 (Decade). Yesterday the  #supremecourt  heard a case over a multibillion $ copyright battle between oracle and google which could generate a serious impact across the tech industry. Oracle said that  #Google   #Andriod  smartphones infringed on copyright from the  #JAVA  API platform which  #Oracle  acquired in 2010.  #Oracle  also said that Google steals over 11000 lines of JAVA API code. What is an  #API ? "An application program interface is a prewritten code that allows apps, programs, and websites to communicate with each other. The issue of how APIs are used as the central question for the judges hearing this case." This is one of the biggest cases because it will change the way innovation takes place in silicon valley.
